Key Issues & Policy Pillars
-
I will focus on working with fire departments to establish mutual aid agreements to lower ISO ratings for homeowners. This will immediately reduce premium costs up to 30%.
-
Insurance rates for Oklahomans should be fair and affordable. The file and use system should be monitored to insure appropriate rates are being implemented.
-
Consumers should know what they’re paying for—clarity in coverage options leads to smarter choices and better protection when Oklahomans need it.
The Insurance Department needs to reach the consumers, on their level, not expect consumers to reach it. A consumer education program needs to be easily accessible but also well marketed for consumers to find.
-
Insurance premium rates should reflect real risk, not how much a customer is willing to tolerate paying. Pricing optimization leads to insurers overpricing rates. Fairness shouldn’t be optional.
-
Collaborative efforts that lower risk ratings directly reduce insurance premiums—a win for communities and policyholders. With my support, my local community created mutual aid agreements that cut the ISO ratings from a 9 to a 3 leading to lowered rates for local homeowners.
I plan to work with banks on an escrow account that homeowners can use for their roof to retain risk and lower rates. I plan to create a homeowner education class that once completed will offer discounts to the insured. I will work with agents on how to manage the issues faced by insureds such as large percentage deductibles with options such as deductible buy downs
-
Oklahomans need an accountable leader in insurance regulation who protects and isn’t backed by special interests.

True expertise on what’s needed to prepare comes from someone who has been through a disaster. My total loss in the 2023 tornado taught me the importance of what is needed when faced with the aftermath.
